Every window in a Chartwell home works differently — a paddock-facing lounge wants a view kept, a west-facing bedroom wants total dark. Open any row below to see the product on a window and the honest one-paragraph pitch; the repair service for blinds you already own closes the list.

Blind Repairs & Servicing

Service
Repair technician's gloved hands adjusting the chain-and-clutch mechanism of a roller blind mounted at a Chartwell-area kitchen window — the kind of fix a service visit handles

Not every window needs something new. Sticky chains, tired brackets, slats that won't tilt, a motor that's stopped responding — we repair, restring and re-fit blinds you already own, whoever made them, including after a paint job or a move. If it's genuinely past saving we'll tell you that too.

Built for Chartwell

Windows here work differently to town

Chartwell sits in Johannesburg's northern smallholding-and-estate belt, next to Dainfern — and that shapes what actually belongs on the windows here.

01

The view is the point

Big sliding doors and glass walls open onto paddocks, dams and gardens — the whole reason people buy out here. Blockout-everywhere misses the point; sunscreen fabric that cuts glare while keeping the view through matters more in Chartwell than almost anywhere else we fit.

02

Storm season means wind, not just rain

Highveld storms roll in fast, roughly November to March, with sudden wind and hail. An awning or external blind left open in a Chartwell gust is at real risk — a wind sensor that auto-retracts the system isn't an upgrade here, it's how you protect the investment.

03

Gravel roads mean more dust in the air

Smallholding access roads and unpaved stretches put more dust on glass and fabric than most Johannesburg suburbs see. Wipeable fabrics and full-cassette awnings — where the arms and canopy seal away when retracted — keep dust out of the folds.

04

Wide west and north glass, wide afternoon sun

Large stands and open-plan living rooms mean big unshaded elevations. The afternoon glare call is the one we hear most from this area — and it's usually solved with sunscreen roller fabric or, on the worst elevations, external venetians that stop the heat before it reaches the glass.

Dusk over the paddocks — the view every window here is designed to keep.

We wrote down what the sun does here

Before you talk to anyone about blinds, it helps to know which of your walls is actually the problem. So we did the reading for Chartwell and put it on one page.

  • Why highveld hail peaks at exactly the hour your awning is out
  • Eight products, each with the trade-off written down, not hidden

How it works

Four steps, no surprises

The same honest process whether you're fitting one bedroom or every window on a Chartwell smallholding.

01

Enquire

Tell us about your windows, the rooms and what's actually bothering you — glare, privacy, an awning idea — through the form or chat.

02

Free in-home measure

A consultant visits with samples, measures every window precisely and talks through fabric, openness and motorisation for each room's light.

03

Written quote

One line per window, priced clearly. Nothing hidden in it, and no need to decide while we are standing there. Budget on this: out here the spread is R1,000 to R7,500 a square metre installed, indoor fabric at the modest end, a motorised exterior system at the other. Tiny windows carry a minimum. A range only becomes a price at the measure.

04

Made & fitted

Your blinds and awnings are made to order and installed cleanly by hand, with the operation demonstrated before we leave.

About

A measuring tape, a written quote, and a van that knows the gravel roads

What is on offer here is straightforward: window shading made to the size of your opening, for smallholdings and estate homes in Chartwell and out across the belt to Dainfern, Broadacres and Cedar Lakes, Helderfontein Estate and Kyalami. Roller blinds, external venetian blinds, roller shutters, folding-arm awnings and motorised control are each manufactured for the window they are going onto. Nothing is a stock size trimmed down at the last minute.

The sequence is the same on every job. An enquiry lands through the form or the chat, one of our expert consultants will contact you shortly, and a free in-home measure gets booked. On the day, each opening is measured, the fixing substrate is checked, and the fabric, the openness and the control are decided for that room against the light and the exposure it actually gets. A written quote comes back itemised per window, which lets you stage the work by room rather than commit to the whole house at once. Once you sign it off, everything is manufactured to those dimensions and fitted, tested and demonstrated.

Details from the form and the chat are handled under POPIA. They exist to arrange the call-back and price the work, and go no further.

Questions

Honest answers before you commit

Do you cover smallholdings as well as the newer Chartwell clusters?
Yes — Chartwell's mix of larger stands, paddocks and newer secure clusters are all within our service area. The free in-home measure works the same either way: a consultant comes to you, however far back the gate is.
What's the difference between sunscreen and blockout, and which do I need for a room over the paddocks?
Blockout stops light completely — right for bedrooms and media rooms. Sunscreen fabric, usually 3% or 5% openness, cuts glare and UV while keeping the view through during the day, which is why it's the default for paddock-facing living areas here. Many homes end up with both on the same window, as a double roller.
Will an awning or external blind survive a highveld storm?
Wind is the real risk, not the rain. We fit motorised awnings and external venetians with a wind sensor as standard on exposed elevations, so the system retracts itself before a sudden gust or hailstorm can damage it — you don't have to be home to react.
Are your roller shutters a security product?
No, and we'd rather say so upfront. The roller shutters we fit are shading shutters — rigid aluminium slats that roll down outside the glass to cut heat, glare and afternoon sun before it reaches the room, with useful daytime privacy as a side effect. Security-rated shutters are a different product, built and certified differently, and available on request. We won't let a shading shutter be sold to you as a security one.
Does gravel-road dust affect the blinds?
It affects cleaning more than function. Fabrics are wipeable, and on exterior products a full cassette — where the fabric and arms seal away when retracted — keeps dust out of the folds. Worth mentioning if your access road is unpaved.
Do you offer child-safe options?
Yes, on every corded or chained product. Every install gets cord and chain tensioners as standard. In a nursery or playroom we would rather steer you to cordless or motorised control, so there is nothing hanging within a small child's reach.
From first enquiry to fitted blinds, what actually happens?
You reach out through the form or chat on this site, we book a free in-home measure where a consultant brings samples and measures every window, you receive a written quote itemised per window, and once you approve it your blinds are made to order and professionally fitted.
